Discovering basketball, it’s Saturday July 2 at the Cosec in Trèbes

the essential
Initiation to basketball for young people aged 8 to 14: all fans of this sport should note this date in their diary!

Gold medalist of the French Basketball Federation in 2012, Daniel De Freitas, Trébéen for three years, has only one idea in mind: to introduce his favorite sport, basketball, to his new favorite city. Volunteering has no secrets for the one who received the gold medal of the FFBB (French Basketball Federation), during a general meeting held in Arcachon, from the hands of Boris Diaw, then captain of the French team. Sorry, Boris Diaw, born in Cormeilles-en-Parisis, is a French international basketball player who played in the NBA from 2003 to 2017.

Daniel De Freitas, then a cadet, played at the CA Romainville basketball club, in the 93. Very quickly, the new Trébéen turned to arbitration. At CS Lilas (93), Daniel rose through the ranks to become a referee for the French championship. Referee in eight departments, chairman of the referees commission from 1975 to 2016, chairman of the 93 committee’s disciplinary commission, club coach still in 93, member of the steering committee of the highest disciplinary authorities, his wife Marie and his two children Anaïs and Éric did not see him every weekend. Referee of Nationale 3, from Paris to Lyon, Cherbourg, Caen, Dieppe, Tours or Le Mans, Daniel traveled some 450 km, sometimes to reach the basketball hall. Eleven clubs exist in Aude. It’s not much, which is why the Aude committee merged with that of the Pyrénées-Orientales.

This July 2, from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Daniel will introduce basketball, with the help of Alexis Devauchelle, federal technical adviser within the FFBB. Practical workshops to understand what this sport is and learn to play: dribbling, passing, shooting and ball in the basket! “Eight is the right age to start”he declares, before a wide smile lights up his face, evoking the coming “of the Scoundrels”. Les Crapules is a team made up of ten former and current players or club presidents, all trained as referees, from the Paris region, who will be there out of friendship for Daniel. Karim, the former player of 93, and his group of friends from Villeneuve-Minervois will face the famous Crapules at 6 p.m. Five on the field and five substitutes… the serious things can then begin. At 8 p.m., the friendship drink will close this beautiful afternoon of basketball discovery.
