Directly after the presidential election – this is where Windhorst meets Steffel – Bundesliga

Berlin-Mitte, 8:57 p.m. on Sunday evening.

A schnitzel with the Ultra? First of all, don’t. Lars Windhorst (45) reacted unusually to the new balance of power at Hertha BSC. After the presidential election, the 374 million investor did not eat out with the winner Kay Bernstein (41) from the ultra scene, he ate with the loser.

Immediately after the general meeting on Sunday, Windhorst met electoral loser Frank Steffel (56) in the restaurant “Lutter & Wegner” on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt. The group sat together for more than three hours before saying goodbye at 8:57 p.m.

Windhorst spokesman Andreas Fritzenkötter: “It was a chance meeting.”

Windhorst had already tried to be close to Steffel at the meeting, and discussed the items on the agenda with Steffel, Supervisory Board boss Klaus Brüggemann and Supervisory Board member Scott Körber.

When asked by BILD, Windhorst did not want to reveal what was later discussed with Steffel in the restaurant. The ex-CDU politician had tried in vain to succeed President Werner Gegenbauer (71), whose fall Windhorst had called for.

Windhorst has not yet agreed an appointment with the election winner Bernstein.

Steffel returns to office as president of Füchse Berlin. Those responsible had previously rejected his resignation.

Regarding his election defeat, he says: “I wasn’t aware of such a deep rift at Hertha BSC and the split between the Ultras and the other members to this extent.”

And further: “The members of Hertha BSC have made a directional decision. Even if only 1,600 of over 41,000 members voted for it, that is democracy. The members of Hertha BSC have to answer the question of whether such a company with a balance sheet total of 150 million euros and professional competitive sport can be organized.”
