Diego Epifanio will direct Coruña and will be a rival of San Pablo

Diego Epifanio will direct Leyma Basquet Coruña and will meet again with Hereda San Pablo Burgos in LEB Oro. The Burgos coach, who just over a week ago was left at the gates of the Endesa League with Estudiantes after falling in the final of the play promotion off (60-66) against Marc Gasol’s Bàsquet Girona, he returns to Galicia, where he already managed Breogán Lugo, whom he returned to the elite last year.

Epi (Burgos, 1978) has extensive experience as a training coach in basketball from Burgos. In addition, he was an assistant to Andreu Casadevall in the Autocid Ford Burgos that achieved three promotions on the track (2013, 2014 and 2015), although none materialized. In the 2015-16 season he continued as Casadevall’s second at San Pablo Burgos until in November he took over the reins of the azulón team when the Catalan coach went to Zaragoza. And a year and a half later, after an immaculate playoff, he promoted the Burgos team to ACB in Villamuriel de Cerrato.

After two years at the helm of San Pablo Burgos in the top flight, in 2019-20 he went to Lugo, where he returned Breogán to the Endesa League in 2021 after beating Covirán Granada in the promotion final.

Epi did not continue in the capital of Lugo and in April he faced the challenge of going up to Movistar Estudiantes. He reached the Final Four with the Madrid team, but was defeated in the decisive match against Marc Gasol’s Basquet Girona. Now he has a new opportunity in LEB Oro, where he will face his former team, Hereda San Pablo, who will be one of the favorites to be promoted to the highest category.
