Daniil Medvedev still in the final in Halle after his victory over Otte

Daniil Medvedev is no longer unsinkable on break points in Halle, but he is in the final. The Russian had saved 17 (two against Goffin, six against Ivaskha, nine against Bautista-Agut) to qualify for the half, and another five this Saturday against Otte (51st in the world) in a very tormented start to the set against a German as slender as he was ingenious.

But at 3-4, the world No. 1 ended up capitulating and dropping his serve on one of these backhand faults which seemed to rot his mind to see his strong reactions to his coach Gilles Cervara. But at 5-3 e his favor, Otte committed a double fault on his set point, and the match ended up turning after winning a disheveled tie-break won by Medvedev.

A first title since the US Open 2021?

Hardening the rallies, more offensive to prevent his opponent from planting his banderillas, sometimes exceptional on a few long line backhands, the Russian took advantage of a few errors from Otte to break away at 4-2 before finishing on eight consecutive points on his start. Game.

Qualified for his second consecutive final after that of ‘s-Herogenbosh lost against Tim Rijhoven, Medvedev (who will not play Wimbledon since the Russians are excluded) has lost only two of his last fourteen matches on grass since his defeat against Struff in the 1st round of Halle in 2021. Opposed in the final to the winner of the match Kyrgios-Hurkacz, he will try to win his first title since his success at the US Open 2021.
