Costa Rica won the last place for the World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday night, which will be held between November and December, after beating New Zealand in Doha in the last round thanks to a goal by Joel Campbell after three minutes of play. It will be the sixth World Cup for the Ticos, who debuted in Italy (1990) and attended the events in South Korea and Japan (2002), Germany (2006), Brazil (2014) and Russia (2018).

In the South American country it was where they signed their best tournament. They reached the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated on penalties by the Netherlands. Now, the team led by Luis Fernando Suárez is drawn in the same group –E– as Spain.

Both teams will meet on the first day of the World Cup: on November 23 at 5:00 p.m. at the Al Thumama stadium in Doha, the Qatari capital. Completing this group are Germany and Japan, who will meet three hours earlier at the Khalifa International stadium, also in Doha. The penultimate place in these qualifiers was achieved by Australia after beating Peru on penalties on Monday.
