Chris Froome, ill, abandons before the 7th stage

Chris Froome will not start the 7th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné on Saturday. The British rider is ill and unable to take on the high mountains of the day.

Briton Chris Froome, ill, gave up on Saturday morning to continue the Critérium du Dauphiné, before the 7th stage which marks the entry into the high mountains between Saint-Chaffrey and Vaujany.

“Chris hasn’t been feeling well for two days. On the advice of the medical staff, the team decided that it was best for Chris to rest and recover as soon as possible.announced the formation Israel PT.

Quadruple winner of the Tour de France between 2013 and 2017, Froome is looking to become competitive again following his serious accident in the Dauphiné 2019.

“I was impatient to play the last two stages of the Dauphiné but I don’t feel 100%”said the British rider.

“It’s disappointing to leave the race before the end but I’m making good progress and I don’t want to fall behind at this important moment of the season”added Froome, whose selection for the Tour de France (July 1 to 24) is not certain.

After six stages, the former winner of the Dauphiné (2013, 2015) occupied 76th place in the general classification, more than 11 minutes from the yellow jersey, the Belgian Wout van Aert.
