Chihuahua will host COCABA qualifying games in its women’s branch 2022

The State Government maintains its commitment to ensure the comprehensive development of young Chihuahuans, for this reason, through the Chihuahuan Institute of Sports and Physical Culture, Chihuahua will host the qualifying games of the Central American Basketball Confederation (COCABA) 2022, in its major female branch; which will be held in the state from July 26 to 31 this year.

Representing the Governor of the State, Maru Campos Galván, the head of the Chihuahuan Institute of Sports and Physical Culture, Teporaca Romero Del Hierro, commented that the State of Chihuahua is a national benchmark in terms of basketball, so it is a pride to receive the major women’s teams of COCABA.

Likewise, he emphasized that, from the state administration headed by Campos Galván, the integral development of Chihuahuan youth is sought through sports, which promotes values ​​among young people, in addition to offering them development options for their personal growth.

On the other hand, Romero Del Hierro thanked Jonathan Villegas, coach of the Mexican women’s national team, so that the players can change their course in basketball and thus be able to promote the physical development of youth.

In the same way, the director of the ICHD highlighted that this will be the third time that Chihuahua will host international basketball competitions, as it was in November when hosting the first window of men’s qualifiers of the International Federation of Basketball (FIBA).

“Being a woman in sports is breaking stones and removing the stigma that women cannot give a good sporting show,” said Teporaca Romero, emphasizing that belonging to a national women’s team implies sacrifices and breaks the gap to achieve gender equity. gender in Mexican sports, which is one of the references sought by the current State Government headed by Maru Campos.

On the other hand, Modesto Robledo, president of the Mexican Sports Basketball Association, thanked Governor Maru Campos for his support of basketball. “This is the dream of all the players and today it becomes a reality with the support of the Governor for hosting the Chihuahua qualifying games in Chihuahua”; games to which Robledo predicts positive results.

Speaking, Cristina Chaires, a member of the Mexican National Team Committee, recognized the work of the head of the Executive for bringing the basketball party to the state, as Chihuahua is the cradle of basketball in Mexico and trusts that, in accompaniment of the Governor, work for this sport.

Finally, Omar Quintero, project director of the National Teams and coach of the senior men’s team, Chihuahua opens the door with the COCABA classifications, which will give way to the FIBA ​​tournaments, there is a list of 30 players, of which 12 will be selected to represent Mexico.

The qualifying rounds of the COCABA games contemplate the participation of the central zone of America and the selections of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama will face each other.
