Cerberus: “For me it really came down to the end of the fight”

Angelina returns from the French Brazilian jiu-jitsu championships with the bronze medal.

At 14, Angélina Solorza Niño competed last week in the French Brazilian jiu-jitsu championships in Villebon-sur-Yvette (Essonne). For her first participation, she returned to Cerbère with the bronze medal.

Angelina has been practicing capoeira and Brazilian jiu-jitsu since she was 8 years old. Her dad Tiago is master Dendê, a capoeira teacher. He also teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu at Cerbère by delegation from his master Beto Ramos, from the Delariva Nantes club, ranked the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu club in France.

This martial art is derived from judo and Japanese jiu-jitsu. The fights, very technical, are mainly on the ground, with arm locks, leg locks, neck locks and strangulations (strikes are prohibited).

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is at the origin of the creation of the UFC (Ultimate fighting championship), a mixed martial arts championship (or MMA, Mixed martial arts, that is to say all disciplines feet-fists combined).

Angélina prepared for the championship in Cerbère with Tiago and, during the holidays, in Nantes with master Beto Ramos, black belt 3rd bar and multiple French champion. During the championships: “I was very stressed, she admits, but I was strategizing with my team by watching the other competitors.”

For organizational reasons, she was forced to fight in the higher category, with older and heavier competitors.

Angelina returns enthusiastic: “I loved the atmosphere, the people cheering. For me, it really came down to the end of the fight.” In the immediate future, she continues capoeira : “I really love this sport. It helps me a lot in Brazilian jiu-jitsu for support, flexibility, sheathing”.

Angelina intends to participate next year in the French championships to bring back the gold. The European championships take place in five months. “ And why not ?”, she smiled.
