Two summer camps specialized in basketball skills are currently held in Carolina as part of the summer offers made by the Municipality for its children and youth. The basketball camps have been divided into the male and female categories in order to work on the basic skills of this sport in a specialized way. The camps have been among the busiest of the summer, exceeding expectations and achieving a full house in both categories.

“For the past few years, we have tried to have a wide range of offers so that the children and young people of the City can choose their summer camp according to their interests. The sport of basketball has always been one of the most interesting, however, we have been surprised by the number of girls who decided to learn the skills of women’s basketball. So there is great hope for Carolina to continue to stand out in this sport as she has done so far, ”said the mayor of Carolina, José Carlos Aponte.

The women’s basketball camp, with some 43 girls between the ages of 7 and 14, is led by Roxanne Rodríguez, who belongs to the Carolina Giants team with a personal record of 11 championships. Accompanying Roxanne are the physical education teacher, Luisa Rodríguez Vélez, and the player of the UPR Humacao women’s basketball team, Jordana Rivera López.

The men’s basketball camp has 63 participants between 7-12 years old and is directed by Prof. Benjamín Robles, physical education teacher and basketball referee in minor categories. Hand in hand with Professor Robles is Prof. Rusell Santiago, physical education teacher and specialist in adapted basketball for children with functional diversity.

“In order for them to develop and polish skills such as dribbling, ball passes, free kick mechanics, distance shot mechanics, modern defensive and offensive postures, and basketball skills exercises, among other skills, the boys are working in two sports facilities. high: the indoor court of Valle Arriba Heights- in the case of men and the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum for the women’s basketball camp. We are very aware of the skills that our campers demonstrate as they are potential candidates for our Sports School; fostering these positive behaviors results in a more hopeful future for all”, added Aponte.

To balance learning with fun, the basketball camps will have special activities such as a visit to the bowling alley and the Magic Circus performance among others.
