Carolina Marín returns to competition next week in Indonesia

Carolina Marín will not finally dispute the Daihatsu Indonesia that takes place in Jakarta from this Tuesday until Sunday; The woman from Huelva does not suffer any injuries but she has preferred to continue with her physical preparation and her work plan, and not participate in this mid-level tournament (she is in the Super 500 category) within the World Tour.

The European, world and Olympic champion will return to competition next week, in one of the ‘greats’ of the World Tour (of the highest category, Super 1000), the Indonesian Masters which is also based in Jakartafrom the 14th to the 19th of this month, and where the best in the world will be.

Carolina already knows her first rival, the Indian Saina Nehwal, 32 years old and number 23 in the world ranking. It will be the second tournament she has played in the last year, since after eleven months injured she reappeared in the absolute European Championship in Madrid, where she won her sixth consecutive title. She won all of her matches in straight sets except for the quarterfinal against Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt. She has subsequently only played one more match and it was in the Uber Cup (Team World Championship) held in Thailand; She, from Huelva, only competed on the third day (she missed the duels against China and Taipei), when she easily defeated the Australian Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen 21-12 and 21-18.

In Indonesia, the Huelva volantista will start as seed number 5, since she has benefited from the fact that the world ranking is ‘frozen’; due to the pandemic, players can still count points earned in 2019 tournaments for the rankingsomething that clearly benefits Carolina, who has been out for eleven months.

The situation is different in the Race to Guangzhou (China), which will host the World Tour Finals (the Masters) in mid-December; the eight best of the year will meet there, and Carolina has not scored yetsince in this 2022 he has only played the European and the Uber Cup, and for this classification only the World Tour tournaments count.

After Indonesia, the World Tour continues with the Malaysian Open (Super 750) which takes place in Kuala Lumpur from the 28th of this month.

The big event on the calendar in 2022 is the Absolute World Championshipwhich will take place in Tokyo (Japan) from August 22 to 28, where Carolina Marín hopes to add a new title to her list of winners.
