Mario Götze’s Bundesliga return is almost fixed. The World Cup hero of 2014 should play for Eintracht Frankfurt in the future. The 30-year-old should play an important role in Coach Glasner’s ensemble.

The return of World Cup hero Mario Götze is not even perfect, since the almost certain buyer Eintracht Frankfurt is already showered with praise.

A good month after the Europa League triumph in Seville, the Hessians seem to have succeeded in the next coup, this time on the transfer market.

According to consistent media reports, the deal with Götze, which will last until June 2025 and will come to the Main for only three to four million euros, is fixed. The public echo is extremely positive: Big name for little money, drawn by the new European Cup winners’ euphoria that has prevailed since the win against Glasgow Rangers on May 18th at the latest.

The 30-year-old comes from PSV Eindhoven and is due to sign with coach Oliver Glasner’s club this Tuesday. The 2014 World Cup winner had already stopped training with the Dutch top club on Monday to have time and freedom for an upcoming change. PSV did not give any more details, but the transfer to Eintracht became more and more clear over the course of Monday evening. Among other things, “Bild”, Sport1 and the “Kicker” reported on it, an official confirmation was still pending.

Another offensive ace for Glasner

The Austrian Glasner should be happy about the prominent newcomer. His already variable offensive with striker Rafael Borré and the pace players Daichi Kamada and Jesper Lindström should be even more difficult to calculate in the new Bundesliga season. Götze can play on the ten or at the front, the new noble option with a star factor can also flexibly switch to the wings.

And he will be highly motivated to attack again in his home league after leaving Borussia Dortmund two years ago. This is also why Götze should have turned down offers from Benfica Lisbon and ex-coach Roger Schmidt as well as from Inter Miami and opted for the SBU.

Götze will also play the Champions League in Frankfurt. He joins a team that has been pumped by the fans for the past few months and has flown from high point to high point. Victory at Barcelona’s Camp Nou, European coronation in Seville: For many Eintracht fans, 2022 feels like a fairy tale. And that’s not all. Götze is coming, the new league season will start on August 5th with a game against Götze’s ex-club FC Bayern Munich, and on August 10th in Helsinki they will face Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Götze’s career came to a standstill after the World Cup triumph in Rio de Janeiro – partly for health reasons and because of the high expectations of him. This is also the big topic in the DAZN documentary “Being Mario Götze” from 2018.

Recently, however, Götze was able to convince again: In 52 competitive games for Eindhoven last season, he scored twelve goals and eleven assists. He played his last international match in November 2017 against France. In Frankfurt, Götze now has the stage to draw attention to himself again with a view to the World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18) and to convince Hansi Flick of himself.
