Betting scandal in England? Police investigate yellow card for Xhaka – football

Has there been bet rigging in the Premier League?

The yellow card given to Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka (29) in the game against Leeds United (4-1) on December 18 is under investigation by the National Crime Agency. This is reported by the English “Daily Mail”.

Reason: A bet was placed on the warning for the equivalent of around 75,710 euros. The player won around 291,000 euros as a result of the yellow card.

Xhaka delayed taking a free kick in the 86th minute and was subsequently cautioned by referee Andre Marriner.

The FA has launched a six-month investigation after being made aware of the incident by leading bookmakers.

There has never been any indication of wrongdoing by Xhaka or any other Arsenal player. Therefore, the investigation does not deal with the alleged time game of the midfielder.

In January, a betting source told The Sun: “This bet was reported to all bookmakers because it was so big and it paid off. The investigation is into the bet and not Xhaka’s behavior – it’s not uncommon for him to get a card at all.”

According to the Daily Mail, the National Crime Agency is investigating as the stakes are well above what is normally paid for betting on yellow cards and the rate of a caution in the last 10 minutes was higher than before kick-off.

The bet was also made on a betting exchange where users can bet against each other or accept bets from other users.

The FA has now handed over the investigation to the National Crime Agency and handed over all investigation findings to the agency.
