Poland will not have defender Maciej Rybus at the World Cup in Qatar because of his transfer within the Russian league. Most recently, he had not been invited to the national team due to his contract situation.

As the national association announced on its website on Monday, the 32-year-old will neither be invited to the training camp in September nor considered for the championship from November 21 to December 18 “because of his current contract situation”. Selection coach Czeslaw Michniewicz informed the player of this after completing the latest national team course last week.

Rybus has been with Lok Moscow since 2017, where his contract expires on June 30. Despite Russia’s war against Ukraine, the defensive player is moving within the league next season to Spartak Moscow, where he has signed a two-year contract. Rybus was not part of Poland’s squad for the recent Nations League games and World Cup playoff against Sweden.
