Raoul Korner is the new coach of the Hamburg Towers basketball Bundesliga club. As the club announced, the 48-year-old Austrian signed a contract for the next two seasons.

Korner succeeds the Spaniard Pedro Calles, who will look after the EWE Baskets from Oldenburg in the upcoming series. The new man on the Towers sidelines was last six years with league rival Medi Bayreuth. He will stop working as the Austrian national coach in July.

“We’ve had a lot of constructive discussions over the past few weeks. It quickly became apparent that Raoul is exactly the right candidate for the Towers,” said managing director Marvin Willoughby. “We don’t just see a clear handwriting with him in terms of sport, he also suits us very well as a person.”

“The location has enormous potential and I would like to do my part to develop it to the full,” said Korner about his commitment in the Hanseatic city. In the coming weeks, the Austrian will initially complete his coaching staff. At the same time, the detailed squad planning for the new season in the Bundesliga should begin.
