München – Managing Director Stefan Holz drew a positive balance for his league after the end of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
“We finished the third Corona season. Again very successful in sport, with a great atmosphere – it was a very worthy honor. If someone had told me that at the beginning of the season, with spectators and good games, I would have signed it. We did it again,” Holz told the German Press Agency in Munich.
The official was in the fourth final game, in which Alba Berlin secured its eleventh championship title by beating FC Bayern Munich. “Definitely a deserved German champion – as the winner of the main round. In the end, they were the better team over the four games against Bayern,” said Holz.
The fact that more than 1000 seats in the Audi Dome in Munich remained empty during the decisive game does not concern the league boss. “We had 35 degrees, bomb weather outside. The issue is short-term. To fill the hall within two days – it was perfectly fine, perfectly fine.” Sales could only begin on Friday evening after game three because it was not clear beforehand whether there would be a fourth final.
