Badminton beats Venezuela and advances to the semifinal at the Bolivarian Games

ZIPAQUIRA. The Dominican Republic achieved its pass to the badminton team semifinal of the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, by beating Venezuela in three of five rounds.

Venezuela started ahead, when Creole Jonathan Linares lost to Frank Barrios. The Dominican faced problems with the high midfielder and Barrios knew how to find the holes to send him to the back of the draw. The sets concluded 19-21 and 15-21.

Nairobi Abigail Jiménez, first national and tournament racket, beat Damaris Ortiz 21-15 and 21-8. The Dominican left-hander took advantage of a strong hand to attack on the opposite side.

The Dominican duo made up of Argenis Mariñez and Jonathan Linares beat their similar players Manuel Quijada and Joiser Calanche in a tight match. The first set passed 21-17 and the second was a pitched battle 29-27.

The women’s team made up of Alicia Acosta and Clarissa Pie fell to Damaris Ortiz and Tiffany Sánchez in three sets. After dominating the first set 21-16, they lost 15-21 and 15-21.

In the decisive round, the Dominican mixed managed to get out of the big door in a very close match where Nairobi Jiménez and Argenis Mariñez, got the best part against Tiffany Sánchez and Joiser Calanche with partial 21-18 and 21-19.
