ATP – WTA > Murray: “I had problems at the start of my career because some of the things I said or some jokes were the subject of articles and headlines”

Never the last to publicly defend his compatriots, Andy Murray has once again defended Emma Raducanu, not spared the English press as she still struggles to confirm after her incredible title at the US Open 2021.

“There must be a certain respect between the player and the press. I also had problems early in my career because some of the things I said were taken out of context, or some jokes were the subject of articles and headlines, making the relationship a bit tense and negative. You have to let Emma be who she is. I’m sure a lot of these people made mistakes and said things they shouldn’t have said when they were eighteen or nineteen. It’s the same for us sports people, we shouldn’t judge her so harshly and I think that would help Emma a lot. »
