Hernán Darío Herrera has spoken to so many journalists after the title won by Atlético Nacional, in a difficult victory against Deportes Tolima, that it almost seems that he has said it all. But not.
The first thing he wanted to settle is the discussion about his salary, which according to the Medellín press would be 4.5 million pesos a month, a much lower income not only than that of the other first division team coaches in the country, but to that of their own leaders.
“I am happy, I am calm in Nacional, and the economic part is not that I want to earn a lot of money or that I am in Nacional for money. Those of us who have been in Nacional love the team very much. I continue to belong to the club’s payroll, whether I earn a lot or a little, it’s my personal problem. I reiterate that I am calm, ”he said in a chat with ESPN.
“At this moment I am and I am part of Nacional in the minors, my contract is with the minors. I have to sit down and talk to the President to find out what’s next, what’s coming, who’s leaving, who’s coming. The horse does not have to be saddled first. Let’s wait for what happens”, he added, leaving the idea that, with the 17th star under his arm, his income will improve remarkably.
However, an anecdote with Dórlan Pabón describes well the difference between one and the other within the same Colombian champion team: “We are very united. That’s National. One time, Dorlan, we went to a hotel and we were bored there and Dorlan said ‘today I’m going to invite you to dinner’. ‘I want to invite them’.
