Athletics meeting in Brussels canceled…by hackers | Remarkable

The Brussels GP, which normally takes place next Sunday in the King Baudouin Stadium, is cancelled. The organization announced this today. The reason for the cancellation is striking: “The registration website is the victim of constant and repetitive hacking,” it said in a statement.

No registration website, no contest. The organization uses its own registration system, separate from the platforms offered by the athletics federations. There have also been problems with registrations in recent years, but organizer Brussels Athletics stuck to its own system despite the criticism.

“Both the database and the website itself have been hacked for several weeks,” the organization said. “And that without being able to determine the exact cause or find a solution until now. Faced with all these problems, it seems very difficult to us to organize the Brussels Grand Prix next Sunday.”

Finding another date will be difficult for the organizers. The athletics calendar is already overcrowded and the Koning Bouwdewijn Stadium is already reserved in the coming weeks for concerts by The Rolling Stones, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay, among others.
