AREA SPORTS ROUND-UP: Marshall Legion Baseball Takes Second Place in Watertown Tournament | News, Sports, Jobs


WATERTOWN – The Marshall Legion baseball team split two games in the Watertown tournament on Saturday, defeating Cleveland 5-3 and falling to the second-place finalists 5-2 to Watertown.

Against Cleveland, Connor Neubeck led Marshall with three hits, while Charlie Jacobson added two hits and three RBIs. Parker Schmitt won the start, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, and knocking out 10. Andrew Wallen got the win in relief, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs without hitting and knocking out five.

Against Watertown, Neubeck led Marshall with two hits and an RBI, while Tyler Maeyaert, Gavin Peterson and Zach Leibfried had one hit. Ashton Rowe took the loss on the mound and went 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs on three hits.

Marshall (3-3) will play his home tournament next weekend.

Milroy Yankees 23, Tracy 9

TRACY — The Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team defeated Tracy 23-9 on Sunday.

Brock Schultz led the Yankees with five hits and two RBIs, while Alex Thompson added three hits and an RBI, and Jackson Hughes, Jake Tauer and Brian Dolan each had two hits and combined for six RBIs. Aaron Mathiowetz and David Schmidt each added a three-run homer. Austin Deutz got the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing nine runs on 12 hits and knocking out one.

Trevor Parlberg led Tracy with four hits, including a home run, and five RBIs, while Travis Willhite, Taylor VanOverbeke and James Fultz each had two hits. Lucas Gervais took the loss on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing eight runs on eight hits while hitting two.

The Yankees face Willmar at home at 7:30 pm on Friday, while Tracy faces Sacred Heart at 7:30 pm on Friday.
