Real Madrid player Anthony Randolph will have to undergo surgery, “in the next few days”, for a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, suffered on Monday night in the first match of the Endesa League final against Barcelona at the Palau. The American power forward must therefore be between eight and ten months out, so he will miss most of the next season.

Sergio Llull spent eight months away from the courts after breaking the anterior cruciate in his right knee in August 2017 during a match played with Spain, while Carlos Alocén has just completed four months since he was the victim of the same injury in February, in the left knee. Randolph was injured in the second quarter of Barça-Madrid on Monday, when he slipped while chasing Nikola Mirotic, causing his leg to buckle and break his knee.

On December 18, 2020, the Real Madrid player already broke the Achilles tendon of the same left leg in Athens, against Olympiacos, and was away from the courts for almost a year, to which he returned on December 4. This course he has played 24 games in the Endesa League and 17 in the Euroleague.

Real Madrid already feared a serious injury to Randoph, the victim of an unfortunate fortuitous action when he was trying to recover a ball from Mirotic. His gestures of pain when bending his knee in an unnatural way presaged a break that was confirmed on Tuesday by the tests to which he was subjected, the day before Barça and Madrid meet again this Wednesday at the Palau in the second match of the final of the ACB League.

Randolph’s absence is another blow to Real Madrid, which this season has been hit hard by injuries and the coronavirus, in addition to the mild myocardial infarction recently suffered by Pablo Laso, although the coach from Vitoria has already returned to workouts. It will once again be his assistant, Chus Mateo, who manages Real Madrid at the Palau this Wednesday, before the fight for the best-of-five title continues on Friday at the WiZink Center in the capital.
