Angelique Kerber reaches the quarter-finals in Bad Homburg and thus underlines her top form

Kerber got two breaks in the first set to make it 3: 1 and 6: 2, but the woman from Kiel did not allow a break chance with her own service.

“I felt comfortable from the first point,” she said later: “I really enjoyed the support of the fans and felt at home. That’s why I’m playing such good tennis at the moment.”

In the second round as well, Kerber, who had been seeded three in Bad Homburg, scored a break to make it 3-1. When she then fended off four break chances from her opponent at 4: 2, her resistance was broken. After 68 minutes, the 34-year-old converted her second match point.

“I don’t know exactly why things are going so well in Germany either. But with the fans behind me, I feel I have an advantage,” said the defending champion, who beat Bronzetti to a total of 42 winners.

Kerber now against Cornet

On Thursday, Alizé Cornet (France/No. 9) stands in her way in the quarter-finals as an opponent, who knocked out Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 4 on Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a tough match, we’ve already fought a few battles. But I’m ready and I think it’ll be a good match,” said Kerber confidently. In direct duels it is 5:2 for the German (1:0 on grass).

Lisicki justifies wild card

Lisicki only returned to the field at the beginning of May at two smaller tournaments on the ITF/USTA tour in Florida – years of suffering including a cruciate ligament rupture and glandular fever are behind her.

In Bad Homburg she is in the main field thanks to a wildcard and justifies the trust of the tournament organizers.
