Al Thornton replied to García Morales on Twitter and described his statements as “false”

American Al Thorntona former Aguada player, used his Twitter account to answer the statements made by Leandro García Morales last Friday, after Aguada announced on Thursday his disassociation from the club.

“I’ll be clear. I think any player should get his full contract, obviously. I have respect and love for the club and the fans, that’s a known fact. Also that I would never lie about an injury and not train for it. I love the game too much to do something like that,” Thornton said on his account.

In that first part of his statements, Thornton understood precisely the claim that García Morales made about the wage arrears he suffered in the 2021 Uruguayan Basketball League, which was played in bubble mode in Biguá and in which Aguada was eliminated in the play-in Against all odds, against Capitol.

“What he says about us Americans that we faked injuries, that we didn’t train and that we had zero ethics and that we lied about our health, etc, that is absolutely untrue.” Thornton added.

On Friday, on Puro Básquetbol, which is broadcast by Sport 890, García Morales had stated: “I averaged 24 points in the Short League and I was the best player in that League for Aguada, I think I didn’t play badly, with foreigners who didn’t train, who after becoming champions didn’t show up for training and nothing happened, they didn’t change players, they didn’t want to play due to injuries. I played the entire League without earning a peso, we had to please ask them to catch up to play the next League and I accepted a discount of half my contract.

In addition to Thornton, that 2021 League played Dwayne Davis and Lee Roberts.

For the 2021-2022 League, where the team reached the semifinals, Aguada opted for another trio of foreigners but in the final stretch he again opted for Thornton as a replacement for the injured Argentine Marcos Mata.
