Ajax and Dortmund verbal agreement on Sébastien Haller | Football

Haller signs a four-year contract. The transfer involves an amount of 31 million euros and 4 million guaranteed bonuses.

Even before the German interest became concrete, Ajax had taken the position that Haller and Edson Alvarez may leave if the right price is paid. H2 (technical manager Gerry Hamstra and his right-hand man Klaas-Jan Huntelaar), the new trainer Alfred Schreuder and remote technical commissioner Danny Blind think he can find better alternatives for the two.

The player himself, who scored 21 times in the Eredivisie last season and was accurate 11 times in the Champions League, is of course willing to interrupt his holiday in Ivory Coast for the medical test scheduled for tomorrow. A four-year contract is waiting for him at the Signal Iduna Park. Haller’s management has already reached an oral agreement with Borussia Dortmund about this.

A new hit from Sébastien Haller is also good news for FC Utrecht, which again communicates through the training allowance. The striker was picked up by FC Utrecht on the advice of scout Didier Martel in January 2015 from the reserves of AJ Auxerre, where he had fallen on the second plan. After a rental period of half a season, FC Utrecht decided to include the purchase option of 750,000 euros in the contract.

It took some effort, but on the advice of technical director Jordy Zuidam, Frans van Seumeren decided to invest in the striker and that was a bull’s eye. Not only did the Frenchman score 51 goals for FC Utrecht in 98 games, but he was also sold to Eintracht Frankfurt after two and a half seasons for 12 million euros. This makes Haller the most expensive-selling FC Utrecht player of all time.

After two good seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt, with which Haller won the German Cup, Haller went to Premier League club West Ham United for a transfer fee of 50 million euros. With the Londoners Haller only scored 14 goals in 54 matches and after a year and a half Ajax surprised by bringing Haller back to the Eredivisie. Trainer Erik ten Hag knew Haller from FC Utrecht, where both had worked together. The transfer fee of 22.5 million euros meant a Dutch record transfer. The total amount that FC Utrecht has collected for Haller in lump sum, bonuses, resale percentage and training fees is now around 17.5 million euros.

With Haller as an extra weapon, Ajax managed to seize the national title in 2021. This season, Haller became the top scorer in the Eredivisie with 21 goals and caused a furore in the Champions League with 10 goals in the group stage and 11 in total. In the Eredivisie, Haller again seized the title with Ajax. After a year and a half, 27-year-old Haller is ready for the next step in his career. If Borussia Dortmund and Ajax reach final agreement on the transfer amount, the total transfer fees that the Ivorian international has raised will rise to 125 million euros.

The departure of Haller will remove the last doubt, among a few within Ajax, about the recruitment of Steven Bergwijn. The jackpot that the striker yields can partly be used to finally release the Orange international from Tottenham Hotspur. But perhaps even more important for Bergwijn is that Haller proves that a record purchase can be worth twice as much and eighteen months later can already yield one and a half times as much.
