Coach John Patrick is leaving the Bundesliga basketball club MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg after more than nine years.

According to the club, the American will take a break at his own request for the time being. “We came to the conclusion that it would be best for the team if I had the opportunity to recharge my batteries,” said Patrick.

The coach took over Ludwigsburg in 2013 and has led the Giants to the playoffs every year except for 2019. In 2020, the club only had to admit defeat in the Alba Berlin final. “The greatest sporting successes of the club came during his time with the MHP giants,” explained Alexander Reil, 1st chairman of the club. “An intensive, goal-oriented and successful cooperation comes to an end after nine years.”

Patrick was last linked with Japanese club Chiba Jets. The 54-year-old is set to work here as a coach from October.
