Sony Pictures

If you were zapping through the TV program late in the early 90s, you will very likely have gotten stuck with “Who’s the boss here?” at some point. The US sitcom ran for eight seasons in the States from 1984 to 1992, but only made it to Germany after the finale, namely at the end of 1992, where RTL then fired through all the episodes in one go within a year and even broadcast them due to their great success directly repeated. “Who’s the boss here?” developed into a cult hit in Germany too. Now Amazon has grabbed the sequel for its free streaming service, Freevee.

That’s what “Who’s the Boss?” is about.

The series Who’s the Boss is about former New York baseball pro Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) who decides to move to the country with his daughter Samantha (Alyssa Milano), where he lives in a small town as a… Housekeeper for successful advertising executive Angela Bower (Judith Light). But there is always friction between Tony and Angela. The question quickly arises as to who is actually the boss in the house. Amidst the disagreements, the two are beginning to develop feelings for each other, and in sitcom-typical “Will they, won’t they?” .

Here’s what we know about the sequel

The Who’s the Boss? sequel now likely picks up about 30 years after the series finale. The story focuses on the relationship between the now retired Tony and his daughter Samantha, who is now a single mother. The different views, especially when it comes to raising children, should always lead to differences of opinion, which, however, in the spirit of the previous series, will certainly not be dead serious, but will come along with plenty of humor.

No other original stars have been confirmed aside from Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano. So whether there will be a reunion with Judith Light and Danny Pintauro, who played Angela’s son Jonathan, is not yet known. Katherine Helmond, who also played a major role in the original as Angela’s mother Mona, is ruled out. The actress died in 2019 at the age of 89.

This is Amazon’s Freevee

In the US, the “Who’s the Boss?” sequel is getting loud Deadline run on Amazon Freevee. This is the streaming service of the online mail order company, formerly known as IMDB TV, which is also scheduled to come to Germany this year.

Amazon Freevee differs from Amazon Prime Video in that it is not a paid streaming service that requires a subscription, but a free one that is funded by advertising. This means that when streaming on Freevee, there are always commercial breaks, but in return you can watch the content completely free of charge.

The German launch of Amazon Freevee was announced for 2022. An exact date is still pending. The “Who’s the boss here?” sequel, which has no start date yet, will probably end up on Freevee in Germany. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.

One of the best sitcoms of all time is set to return after 25 years – with the original stars but still very different
