A summer with new challenges for Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic completed his fourth season by once again making a strong impression. The leader, who is already evolving in high circles, has again managed to impress the gallery, notably by winning his first series of NBA playoffs in his career and a Game 7 against the leader of the Western conference.

Once again, the offseason will be very important for the “franchise player” of the Mavericks. On the ground first, as explained by the GM of Dallas, Nico Harrison, with the need to get back in shape (and not in shape) for the training camp and thus lay the foundations for a new great season.

“Yeah, it’s something we talk about, it’s something he talks about, and he knows it. At the end of the season, he was in great shape, and he played very well. Now, if you’re expecting Luka to have Doe Doe’s (Dorian Finney-Smith) waistline, that’s not going to happen. It’s just not the way his body is made. And then he also benefits from his weight, because it allows him to punish the opposing point guards, so there is a balance on what we want him to be in terms of physical condition.Slipped Nico Harrison.

Build a better team by maintaining group cohesion

What has come out of Jason Kidd’s training since the Kristaps Porzingis trade, and particularly in the playoffs, is also the unity of this group, which has been nourished by this spirit of camaraderie. In this sense, Luka Doncic should also be involved off the pitch, in the recruitment process as a whole.

“Luka just wants to keep improving, keep signing players so that the level of expectations is always high, so we have to sign players who can help meet those expectations”added Nico Harrison. “One of the most important points is that we have a great team that is connected. So we have to be very careful when we start bringing in or leaving players.”

Whatever happens, as long as Luka Doncic is at the Mavs, Dallas will be competitive, thanks to the Slovenian’s ability to turn the tide of a match almost single-handedly. Every year, Luka Doncic has impressed. But the strongest thing is that he continues to do so, four years after his arrival across the Atlantic.

“He really knows how to control a game. He sees things two, three, four steps ahead. We know that when we start in a playoff series, we have the best player on the floor. So that should give everyone confidence.”recalled Nico Harrison, who sees only positive in the next steps to come of the “process” with Texas sauce. “I think 2022/23 will be a success because we are a better team now than we were at the start of the season. So we are going to start the season being a better team. It doesn’t mean we’re going to the Western Conference Finals…but we’re going to start as a better team, which I think will carry us through the season.”
