It should probably be a nice lunchtime barbecue in Harlem, a neighborhood in the New York borough of Manhattan, reports the US portal “TMZ”, citing information from the police. Without knowing more specific details, it can be said that the meeting got out of hand. A shootout ended at around 12:40 p.m. local time, injuring nine people. His coach mourns the 21-year-old: “My heart is breaking”

The basketball talent was immediately taken to the hospital after the officers arrived, just like the other people who were shot. But for the 21-year-old, who was shot in the chest area, any help came too late.

“We are in shock and cannot believe this news. My heart breaks for his mother, his sister and his entire family and for our basketball team,” said his university coach Ron Cottrell in a statement.

In terms of sport, Lee is currently doing perfectly: he was the best player in Houston last season, averaging 18.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Strong! Lee could have signed up for the draft next year to fulfill his NBA dream. He was recently named athlete of the year at his university and was about to graduate.

“Not only was he a great basketball player, he was an even better person. I can’t even think about basketball right now,” his coach continued. “I can only think of what a light Darius was in his short time on earth. It was a pleasure to coach him. And we loved him so much.”

The police in New York are currently not announcing any further information. A firearm is said to have been secured at the scene and investigations are ongoing. (ana)
