(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Im Soon-hyeon = The Korean women’s badminton team advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Team Badminton Championships for the eighth time in a row.

The women’s national team defeated Denmark 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Women’s Team Badminton Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand on the 12th (Korean time).

In a team badminton match, 3 singles matches and 2 doubles matches are played, and the first to win 3 wins is the winner.

The national team succeeded in subduing the baseline with Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) in their first singles match, and then doubles Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan (Incheon International Airport) and singles Kim Ga-eun (Samsung Life Insurance) were victorious in succession.

As a result, the national team succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals for the eighth time in a row since the 2008 tournament when they placed third.

The national team will face off against Japan in the quarterfinals to advance to the final.

The date and time of the quarterfinal match have not been decided yet.

In the quarterfinals, Japan defeated Taiwan 3-0 with world No. 2 singles Akane Yamaguchi and advanced to the quarterfinals.

The men’s national team, which reached the quarterfinals of the World Men’s Team Badminton Championships, will also play a match against Denmark from 9 pm on the same day.

If Denmark wins, the men’s national team advances to the semifinals for the first time in six years since the 2016 tournament.

The World Women’s Team Badminton Championships and the World Men’s Team Badminton Championships are team events held every two years, called the Uber Cup and Thomas Cup, respectively.

In the 2020 tournament held in October last year in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the women’s team took third place, and the men’s team advanced to the quarterfinals.
