Will we get Antwerp, Mechelen and Lierse derbies in the second amateur division next year?

Yesterday, Standard’s promises conquered the last ticket for 1B. This is how the series of the first team of Beerschot is gradually taking shape. The promises of Antwerp, Beerschot and KV Mechelen may meet in the second amateur division. With Racing Mechelen also in that series, this could result in some fiery derbies. Lyra-Lierse also has a chance to win a ticket for that series, just like the promises of… Lierse K. That promises!

kofr, thst, yala

The U21 of Standard have secured a place in 1B next season as the last promise team yesterday. Earlier, the U21 of KRC Genk, Anderlecht and Club Brugge were also sure of a ticket for 1B. And so Beerschot and Lierse K know almost all opponents for next season. Deinze, Lommel, RWDM and Waasland-Beveren will certainly play in 1B next season. For the last two places it still goes between Mouscron and Virton on the one hand and Dender and Club Luik on the other. Mouscron was able to save himself sportingly in 1B, but missed a professional license. If Mouscron cannot obtain a license from the BAS either, then the last player Virton will remain in 1B. Dender and Club Luik are the only two remaining promotion candidates in the highest amateur division. Those two clubs will still work on promotion play-offs in the coming weeks, Dessel Sport and Knokke also qualified for those play-offs. However, Dessel Sport and Knokke did not apply for a professional license for the 2022-2023 season and therefore have no chance of being promoted to 1B.

Three possible derbies in second amateur

The promises of Antwerp will come out next season, just like those of Beerschot, in the second amateur division. Although they still hope for a ticket for a higher series at Antwerp. Cercle Brugge qualified for the first amateur, but would rather play a series lower. For the time being, it remains to be seen whether an Antwerp city derby will be played in the second amateur next season.

There may also be a Mechelen derby in the second amateur division next year. The promises of KV Mechelen compete in a jump-off against the promises of Lierse K. for the last place in the second amateur division. The jump-off will be completed in one race. As the highest ranked team, KV Mechelen gets the home advantage. The match will take place at the Mechelen youth academy but will be played behind closed doors for safety reasons.

Racing Mechelen recently became champion in third amateur and could therefore compete against the promises of the city rival next season. Lyra-Lierse also has a chance of a place in second amateur. A derby between the promises of Lierse K and Lyra-Lierse is therefore also a possibility in the potentially crazy second amateur division.
