I am very grateful for the quick, clear diagnosis and for the successful operation that has since taken place,” said the 26-year-old in a statement from the Bundesliga club on Monday.
The tumor in the testicles was discovered during a check-up and surgically removed a few days later. “I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the incredible support from the Charité, the team doctors and the club. I will never forget that. My focus now is on the fastest possible recovery,” said Baumgartl.

Baumgartl had no complaints
According to the announcement, further preventive follow-up treatments will be carried out in the coming weeks. Baumgartl will be out for the last game of the Köpenicker season on Saturday against VfL Bochum (3.30 p.m. / Sky).
Baumgartl, who said he had “not felt any symptoms at all” prior to the diagnosis, underlined the need for cancer prevention in a video on the club’s Twitter channel. “It’s very treacherous. Fortunately, the tumor was discovered at an early stage, so the prognosis is very good. When it comes to preventive care, you invest ten minutes in your life, and I can only recommend it to every man. It’s not a taboo subject.”
The case is reminiscent of Marco Russ. The Eintracht Frankfurt professional was diagnosed with testicular cancer in May 2016. Nine months later, Russ made his comeback.
