SPORTS.- The Julio Corzo Hall of the Santiago Hospital hosted, yesterday afternoon, the presentation of the Andalusian Outdoor Archery Championship, which will be held in our city on June 4 and 5, at the ‘Antonio Cruz Sports Complex ‘.
The Councilor for Sports, Pedro Jesús López González, highlighted that the ‘Los Cerros’ Archery Club in the city works intensely so that this sporting discipline becomes more and more popular among citizens, which is why it carries out activities , aimed at all ages, and now they are immersed in the organization of the Andalusian championship that has been presented.
On behalf of the City Council, the mayor has shown his satisfaction at hosting this type of competition, which makes Úbeda a benchmark not only for heritage, but also for sports. “I am convinced that this championship will be a complete success, because it is a very interesting activity, which will have a very positive impact on the city, at a tourist and economic level”, he indicated.
The president of the Andalusian Archery Federation, José Luis Chaves, thanked the collaboration of the Úbeda City Council, as well as that of other administrations and associations, for making it possible for this championship to be held in the city.
It is not the first time that a championship of these characteristics has been held in Úbeda, precisely, Chaves recalled, before the pandemic, the town of Ubet became the venue for the Women and Sports Grand Prix, having the honor of hosting the women’s national team archery
Taking advantage of the occasion, the president of the federation also highlighted the good work of the ‘Los Cerros’ Archery Sports Club, which has become a regional benchmark in this sporting discipline.
Regarding the format of the event, José Luis Chaves has pointed out that it has been modified, to encourage this championship to also help strengthen the economy of the city that hosts it. That is why the sports event is extended to two days, with the intention of spending the night and enjoying the city.
Regarding the participants, as the president of the federation has confessed, the level is expected to be very high, since several champions from Spain and Andalusia will attend, as well as representatives of the Andalusian team, which will ensure a very lively and attractive competition. for the attending public.
For his part, Juan Carlos Martínez, president of the ‘Los Cerros’ Archery Sports Club, has shown his gratitude to all the collaborators who have made this event possible. In addition, there has been a special mention for the author of the billboard, a watercolor by Juan Valdivia, and for the artisan, Paqui Balboa, author of the crochet mascots, ‘Cerrita’ and ‘Cerrete’, which will be delivered as one of the the trophies to the winners of the sporting event.
The intention of this type of celebration in the city, Juan Carlos Martínez has assured, is to bring citizens closer to this sport. “It is a beautiful and integrating sport”, he has clarified.

This championship will also have the support of the associative fabric, more specifically ALCISER, as stated by its manager, Jesús Casas Escalzo, who has valued the work of the group to carry out this sporting event in the city.
As the manager of ALCISER has stated, the support for this sports club was immediate, once the proposal was presented, since with its collaboration the sports-commerce binomial had been strengthened during the days of this competition.
“There are also scheduled a series of guided tours for these people to get to know Úbeda and its monuments. This supposes an economic injection for the city, from which we are all going to benefit”, she concluded by saying.
