University sports were visited in mourning this weekend due to the death of the student from the University of Guadalajara, David Alejandro Gómez Flores, a judo athlete, just one day after the highest university sports fair was launched, which is based in the facilities from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez, in Chihuahua.

The National Council of Sports of Education AC (CONDDE), organizer of the event, uploaded the obituary a few hours later on its official website lamenting the death of the young sports promise, a fact that momentarily interrupted the celebration of the rest of the day after confirming the tragedy.

The young man, although he was treated by paramedics, could not be revived after he fainted after having participated in the final in the judo discipline due to a heart problem, on Saturday afternoon.

On its official page, CONNDE lamented the loss, which was joined by the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, which also had two athletes in competition within the same discipline.

“We come from a situation complicated by the pandemic and it is the first time that a death has happened in these games, we regret what happened and that will force us all to be stricter in the medical examinations of our athletes”, indicated the director of the sport of the Venados of the UAEM that are in competition in the so-called large state.

Álvaro Reyna Reyes, after announcing that the two UAEM judoka athletes were unharmed, even one of them for three seconds did not qualify for the fight for the medals, commented that a deep investigation is being initiated into what happened with this death, It is unknown if the young man would have had any health problems prior to the competition.

“He was the gold medalist for sure, but sadly he suffered a cardiac arrest in his participation; Unfortunately, the spaces are very far away in Ciudad Juárez, the transfers are 30 minutes or more, and other sports such as soccer with fences that were also carried out, likewise require a lot of attention; I am not aware that the ambulance took a long time to arrive, he comments, but we are not 100 percent sure that this happened ”, indicated the deer sports leader.

“Trying to determine the conditions that surrounded this case because we are coming back after a pandemic… I think it will have to investigate what happened and make a medical notification so that everything is well informed.”

After the tragedy, a minute of silence has been observed during the competitions of the 2022 National Universiade in which 9,000 top-level athletes from the country participate and which will conclude on June 5.
