Two Sporting ultras arrested for assaulting Oviedo fans the night before the derby

The Police confirm that several young people “linked to a radical animation sector of Sporting”, traveled from Gijón that morning “with the aim of locating and attacking” Oviedista followers

The National Police have arrested two people, Sporting ultras, for assaulting Real Oviedo supporters during the night before the derby on April 16.

The police device motivated by the encounter confirms that there were two violent incidents during that morning. The first of them took place in Campo San Francisco, where a group of about ten youths cloaked and armed with baseball bats and retractable fenders, attacked another group that was passing through the area, injuring one of them. The affected themselves, followers of Real Oviedo according to the Police, managed to repel the aggression and made the attackers flee, although they held one of them until the arrival of the agents.

The second of the incidents occurs just a few minutes later on Campomanes street, where a group of five people who hide their faces with balaclavas get out of a vehicle and threaten a passerby with iron bars and bats who they ask if he is a follower. of Real Oviedo, and when answering this in the negative, they flee aboard the same vehicle.

The rapid intervention of members of the Provincial Brigade of Citizen Security, allowed to identify at first three people related to these events, while pointing out the possibility that the motivation for the attack had to do with animosity between hobbies rivals.

The subsequent investigation carried out by the Provincial Information Brigade of Oviedo managed to confirm that several young people, linked to a “radical animation sector of Sporting”, traveled in private vehicles from Gijón the night before the football match, in order to to locate and attack Oviedo fans.

Likewise, the identity of four people linked to a radical sporting supporters club was determined, who actively participated in the events under investigation.

As a result of the foregoing, and as these acts presumably constitute hate crimes, injuries and threats, understanding that this violent behavior was the result of football animosity and that it promoted hostility and discrimination, the arrest of two of the members of the group, who after being heard in statements were released with charges, imputing the same facts to the other two identified, one of them as an investigator not detained. All this was brought to the attention of the Investigating Court No. 4 of Oviedo, who is handling the case.

The detainees have numerous records and even one of them was prohibited from accessing football stadiums, issued by a judicial body due to his previous participation in other violent incidents in the sports field.
