Teachers experienced different celebrations this Sunday, May 15, when the 1st Edition of the Teacher’s Day Race was held, an event that brought together more than a thousand runners from the “Free”, “Master” and “Veteran” categories, both in the feminine branch as masculine. The departure was given at 7:30 am from Caña Hueca to the Monument to the Woman Soldier.
As the organizers announced, “the contest sought to celebrate and recognize the work that thousands of teachers do, so doing it through physical activation generated great expectation, which was well received.”
The first to cross the finish line was Jorge Luis Guízar Aguilar (Comitán), who was the absolute winner in the “Free” category with a time of 22 minutes and 48 seconds. In the “Master”, the first place corresponded to José Abel Vázquez Ramírez, while Arturo Marroquín Calvo won in “Veterans”.
Within the women’s branch, Yoidovina Vázquez López (San Cristóbal de Las Casas) crossed the finish line first within the “Free” division; in the “Master”, it was Ana Elizabeth Sánchez Ruiz who took top honors. And Cecilia Gutiérrez Segura won in the “Veterans” category.
The award ceremony was carried out by the municipal authorities, who sent a message of congratulations to those honored and to the “runners” who attended the event.
“It is a very good route, it is 7.5 kilometers that has its descents and also its slopes; it is a demanding route but its can be run well. The event was very good, first because it was free, and then because the races are promoted,” said Guízar Aguilar, who is currently training to compete in the San Juan Half Marathon, to be held on June 19.
Finally, it is important to mention that the cash award was the one announced in the call: two thousand pesos to the first places, one thousand 500 to the second places and one thousand pesos to those who occupied the third position.
