They aimed for gold; archery awards medal to the UACJ

Ciudad Juárez.- The Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez won 5 gold medals, thanks to the one achieved this Sunday by Ashley Salas Santacruz and Miguel Ángel Bustamente Méndez in archery, in the mixed team modality.

The award ceremony for this event took place this Monday at the Carta Blanca Stadium, where the goalkeepers from Juarez received their gold medal from the UACJ rector, Juan Ignacio Camargo Nassar.

The path of the UACJ duo was in the quarterfinals against UACh, in the semifinals against UANL and in the grand final against Universidad Anáhuac de Mérida.

About this achievement, the goalkeeper José Miguel Bustamante, student of the 10th semester of Accounting said:

“I am 5 years old, I have been an instructor in an archery school for two; I liked this since I was a child because it combines technical, physical and mental strength”.

José already has experience in this sport, which has grown a lot in the state and in the country.

“Along the way, in my first year I was a state and regional champion, I achieved a state record in Albuquerque, I have participated in processes of the Conade Olympiad and now this gold in the National Universiade, which was my first.”

Archery requires a lot of concentration and overcoming factors such as the wind, which blew strongly during the competition:

“The UACh came first, then the Autonomous of Nuevo León, which is a very strong team, we were determined to go for the victory and we went to the tiebreaker, and my partner made that last shot; in the final we faced Mérida, we wanted the gold, we went for it and we got it, this is everyone’s job”, she mentioned.

Finally, he spoke of the objectives he has in the near future:

“We decided to be a power in this sport, I want to put the name of archery and my city, my state as high as possible, I want to continue shooting and I want to reach a World Cup and win it,” he concluded.
