Drafting. Albal has once again celebrated the sports gala after two years of the pandemic. Its XVIII edition has been an event that has brought together the entire local sports world to recognize the efforts of clubs and athletes, in the most complicated context in memory, and reward the achievements harvested in 2020 and 2021.

As for those awarded for sporting merit, they received a tribute from the mayor, Ramón Marí, and the mayor of Sports, Tino Moreno. Among them were; José Vicente Sanchis, for his triumphs in sport fishing; Alejandro Terrades and Borja Soriano in basketball; Amir Bonillo in judo; Lucas Berlanga in karate; Alejandro Mereciano in cycling; and in swimming: María Fernández, Sara Piquer, Álvaro Fernández, Natalia Chaparro, Tania García and Rodrigo Molina.

Simón Rodríguez also received this consideration for equestrian and dressage, and Ainoa Alapont for equestrian. Pau Carreras stood out in archery and José Pascual Martínez in athletics. The special mentions went to the company The Natural Hand, run by Juan Carlos Martínez Primo, and the prize for sport in education went to Pere Ruiz Sala, former director of the Juan Esteve school.

The most emotional moment was experienced with the solidarity award that went to the project ‘Solidaritat per Roberto: De Madrid a València, a bici, en només un dia’, to help a child from Albal with Crouzon syndrome and who seven bicycle fans became a reality.

Jessica Barrachinalla, Levante EDI player, was awarded with the mention of women in sport and the Albal Camina sports initiative, launched after the pandemic, and pilota player Antonio Espinola also received a posthumous tribute. In addition, there was an honorable mention for the soccer player Jorge Sanmiguel Codina (Sanmi).

The mayor, Ramón Marí, closed the gala and pointed out that in sport, “normally only the present counts, but sometimes it is necessary to stop to recognize the successes of the past, especially in a year as delicate as 2020 was”.
