The Sestao River dies on the shore

A goal from Forte in extra time caused the black-and-white to fall in the final of the play-off for promotion to Primera RFEF

Hard setback for the Sestao River. The black-and-green team fell in the play-off final in the cruelest way. The sestaotarras were superior to Eldense in many sections of this decisive match, but it is already known that football knows no justice. The Left Bank squad was served by the tie to achieve the milestone of promotion for the second time in a row and already tasted success. However, a goal from Forte in extra time knocked down all his illusions and ended up sentencing his defeat at the gates of going up to the First RFEF, which would have been a great feat.

Sestao River has done all the merits of becoming a First RFEF team. A brilliant campaign where he has added a total of 70 points that would have earned him to lead three other groups and thus rise directly, but Osasuna Promesas got in his way to cause the green and blacks to have to fight for this ambitious goal by the long way , that of the play-offs. In this promotion phase, the black-and-white were the team with the best records, so the tie was worth both to go through the round in the semifinals, and to become the winner in this final.

The zero to zero against Lleida left him one step away from promotion, but against Eldense he did not suffer the same fate. The green and black team carried out a real lesson in resistance throughout the match, building a real defensive wall that seemed insurmountable. In fact, they not only dedicated themselves to getting stronger, but they ruled the roost and dominated the possession aspect throughout the match. Even so, the first warning was from the people of Alicante after a bad ball out of the green and black. From that moment on, the clearest chances were favorable to Aitor Calle’s men.

After the half hour mark, Gorka Garai dared with a shot from the edge of the box that went just over the post. Just two minutes later, Aitor Villar crashed the ball into the crossbar in a free kick that decided to bounce directly, thus becoming the most dangerous action of the sestaotarras. The suffocating pressure from Sestao River continued to take its toll on their rival after the break. They stole many balls in the opposite field and continued to carry the weight of the match. Despite keeping the glasses result, the meeting was very much alive. The goalkeepers were the main culprits for the ball not slipping to the bottom of the net.

Rabanillo saved a free kick from Acevedo to save the furniture for his team and Vallejo responded immediately by taking a header from Ibrahima Dieng at close range that seemed impossible to stop. The goalkeeper of the black-and-white reappeared on the scene kicking out a definition of Ramis when he faced the Spaniard. Therefore, the game went into extra time, with no goals and with the feeling that Sestao River had more than half of the job done. They only had to endure half an hour more to be a First RFEF team.

On the other hand, Eldense pressed a lot in the opening minutes and put the sestaotarras in trouble. Gaizka Martínez was the savior by heading a ball from the goal line and Rabanillo fingered a powerful long shot on another occasion. The people from Alicante, playing in their field and with the encouragement of their fans, grew up in the face of the fatigue of the black-and-white, dismayed by so much displacement and so many minutes of play. That was how in a corner, Eldense was able to score the final goal to sentence the final. The Asturian goalkeeper was not so successful this time and made a poor start that facilitated Forte’s shot.

The defender thus scored a goal that unleashed madness in the Nuevo Pepico Amat and left Sestao River’s brilliant campaign unrewarded. The green-and-blacks’ legs were heavy and they couldn’t react as they were already below. They had no opportunity to re-sign the boards. Constant interruptions interrupted the rhythm of the game and brought Eldense closer to glory. Even so, the referee decided to add just one minute, to the surprise and anger of the Sestaotarra bench. With the final whistle, sadness fell on the black-and-white members, as well as the hundreds of fans displaced to Elda.
