After two years of pandemic The Badajoz-Cáceres finals are resumed in their entirety, in the longest running and most popular competition of the University of Extremadura, the Rector Trophy.
Suspended in 2020 due to confinement due to covid-19, last year they were held in a reduced version, either because some sports were not played due to lack of registrations (basketball or volleyball), or because some of the qualified teams could not play them due to incidents with the disease (futsal).
If in the first week of May of last year 2021 only the finals of individual sports took place, in this edition all the modalities that had traditionally been developed return, even others that had declined have been recovered, as is the case doubles chess or badminton.
With a participation of close to 3,000 athletes (around 1,200 more than in 2021), from October to April there has been competition of all modalities on both campuses, Badajoz and Cáceres, which will mean that On Wednesday, May 4, there will be an intense final day with a very full agenda, which will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and during which, in the Sports Facilities of the Badajoz Campus, the following specialties will take place: male, female and mixed paddle tennis; Chess; singles and doubles badminton; tennis, table tennis, basketball, mixed volleyball, soccer-7 and futsal.
At 2:30 p.m., in the Sports Pavilion, the award ceremony is scheduled, which, as usual, will be attended by the most representative academic authorities of the UEx, accompanied by those responsible for university sports and the Directorate Sports General of the Junta de Extremadura.
