The first phase of the Loja River Park, an example at the academic level at the University of Granada (UGR)

The Loja River Parka pioneer in the province, was the protagonist in a training session at the School of Roads, Canals and Ports of the University of Granada. There have also been teachers and staff from different administrations and companies. This exhibition adds to the presentation of a larger project that will deal with the second phase of the river park and the creation of a recovery path between the High and Low Hells.



In the talk, it was highlighted state of degradation and waste deposits that were observed in space, the risk of flooding, the heat island that it represented and the loss of biodiversity. Among the actions carried out, the connection of the riverbed with the plain, the removal of invasive species and the recovery of riparian species are outlined. To this was added the actions of use of the space that link the natural heritage with the cultural and tourist potential of the environment.

Citizen participation and the management of a multidisciplinary team are exposed as keys to achieving a very ambitious project. The talk included photographs of the previous and current state of the space, as well as future actions to be carried out. It should be noted that the University of Granada itself is working on a project to delimit the preferential flow zones of the Genil River as it passes through Loja. The use of the space where the new Fairground of the municipality is to be located depends on this, as well as the use of surrounding spaces such as those around the Hospital, among others.

There are many people from Loja who already knew the possibilities of the first phase of the Loja river park, but others discovered them this past Saturday. After ten years of waiting, this channel space, which was degraded and full of rubble, recovers its usefulness by sewing the city from north to south. A renewed floodplain of the Genil River that is another option for recreation in the middle of nature.

The City Council of Loja organized last Saturday a day of conscience about caring for the environment that culminated activities in the renowned Paseo del Genil. It all started at 10 am with the inscriptions for a hiking route through the area of ​​Los Infiernos. A total of 108 participants enjoyed this walk with the reward of obtaining a commemorative t-shirt with the logo of the new Loja park.

The entourage He arrived at noon at the river park where activities were already available for the little ones. There were four inflatable mattresses, a play area for the little ones and different workshops such as archery, face painting and crafts, among others. It was very hot and a water slide was used by many little ones who were wearing their swimsuits for the first time.

It was a activity for the whole family with the participation of local companies such as Animations Non Stop, Saltarines, Animaeduca and Asociación Amigos de la Guarde. The latter also offered an animation activity with characters from the Paw Patrol. The attention of a bar in charge of the Association El Paseo en Navidad was not lacking either.

At noon the Loja City Council facilitated the food thanks to two great paellas with rations for 500 people. Other types of food were also provided from the bar. The coffee and after-dinner drinks have been enlivened by the group La Mafia of former OT contestant Javián. A wide variety of versions of the best Spanish pop rock livened up the afternoon.

Although it was scheduled for the afternoon, the wind conditions made the activity of captive hot air balloon flight It will be late in the day. There were long queues to enjoy the experience. Enjoying the Loja sunset from the sky was the end point of a day of approaching the population to the first phase of, until now, the only river park in the province.

The mayor of Loja, Joaquín Camacho, values ​​very positively that the people of Loja are already enjoying this space and believes that it is necessary to continue along these lines. Specifically, he anticipates that there is a recovery project of the square of the fourth eye of the Great Captain Bridge as well as its own lighting. He also believes that we must continue working to have the second phase in the shortest possible time, which he believes will create a unique space in all of Granada.
