Badminton Denmark’s sports management has selected 11 Danish players in the first phase of the selection for the individual World Cup, which is played on 21-28. August in Tokyo, Japan. More players are expected to be selected in Phase 2, which opens on 19 May.

The World Cup for men’s and women’s national teams, Thomas & Uber Cup 2022, is in full swing in Thailand, but at the same time preparations are being made for the individual World Cup in Japan, which will be played in August.

BWF has thus opened up for the selection process for the individual WC, and Badminton Denmark’s sports management has in Phase 1 selected 11 players who will represent Denmark. Badminton Denmark has unfortunately been forced to say ‘no thank you’ to Freja Ravn / Amalie Magelund’s participation in women’s doubles, as Freja Ravn is long-term injured with a cruciate ligament injury.

Normally there is a separate ranking for the World Cup qualifiers, but this time the players are again invited based on their position on the current world rankings, just as was the case for the World Cup in 2021.

In Phase 1, we have selected the Danish players who we believe can help to make a sporting difference and thereby achieve sporting success for the World Cup. We expect that more Danish players can come to the World Cup, but it depends on how many places Denmark will be offered in Phase 2, which opens on 19 May, says head national coach Kenneth Jonassen and elaborates.

– In Phase 2, we hope to be able to select players who either have a history of performing well at championships or who have a future sporting perspective, says Jonassen

See below who Badminton Denmark’s sports management has selected in Phase 1, and who they hope to be able to select in Phase 2. There are three phases in total.

Men’s singles

Viktor Axelsen
Anders Antonsen
Rasmus Gemke

Phase 2: Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, if he is offered a place

Phase 2: Line Kjærsfeldt, if she is offered a place
