Tennis shoes replace heels and luxury companies are betting on this trend

For some years now, the sports tennis market has been taking center stage among consumers, who no longer only use them for physical activities but also to adapt them to their day-to-day outfits, and office clothes are no exception.

With sneaker sales of US$28 billion in 2021, Nike remains number one in this market globally, followed by the German company Adidas, with a turnover of US$13.7 billion. But this growing market has displaced other luxury brands, such as Gucci, Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton, among others, which have conquered consumers with their exclusive designs and have sold them a new option to replace traditional heels.

For the office, for example, or for jobs with formal clothing, such as stewardesses, it is no longer a requirement to wear high shoes; On the contrary, many companies have evolved on this subject and recognize sneakers as a versatile and elegant option to work with.

“Although sneakers had already been revolutionizing the world of fashion, the pandemic accelerated and definitively changed consumption habits; the new normal is comfort and wellness footwear is here to stay. Perfect to go to the office, to travel, to the fashion fair, for sports, for events, to meet with friends, to go to the art exhibition, to share with the family, for the weekend, generally for all occasions. Tennis shoes are now the protagonists in outfits, without losing elegance and glamour, with a range of sensational top colors and materials”, assured Ana María Riveros, Communications coordinator for Skechers Colombia.

And more and more people are buying new, limited-edition or vintage sneakers in the hope that they will gain value on the secondary market.

The renowned fashion magazine Vogue selected the most requested models from among the trends that would star in 2022. One of them is the ‘Sneaker Dior Vibe’ dad sneakers, sports shoes that intertwine, through their distinguished design, two of the trends that most will be seen at this time: transparencies and metallic details.

Prada also launched its nylon gabardine sneakers, characterized by futuristic volumes, while the Hermès house, with its ‘Duel Sneakers’, invites you to put aside heels and wear tennis shoes without having to give up the classic and timeless style that has defined from its origins to the French brand.

In that order of ideas, you cannot ignore sneakers that have become an icon and that have a more affordable price for consumers, and this is where the Nike brand picks up again. The Nike Air Force 1 are the ones that revolutionized the sector in its beginnings and that today are considered basic wardrobe essentials.

New Balance, for its part, counts the legendary 57/40 among its best-selling shoes. A model inspired by the original version of the same and that, in addition, has advances in terms of design, such as a greater aerodynamic silhouette.

It should not be ignored that this new trend is a key benefit for women and that is why, in the month of mothers, brands such as Skechers, with 30 years of experience in the tennis and shoe market, presented to celebrate Mother’s Day de las Madres, its three leading lines: Aircooled Memory Foam, Performance and Arch Fit, as the best option when it comes to combining style, innovation, quality and comfort.
