The Professional Basketball Super League is just around the corner, and the teams are wasting no time putting together their squads for the new basketball tournament in the country. One of these is Gigantes de Guayana, a team that did not participate in the last edition of the Super League Cup.

The Guayana team was a finalist in the first edition of the Super League, where they fell into the hands of Spartans Distrito Capital. In the second edition of the tournament the team reached the semifinals, but could not reach their second final in a row and for the Super League Cup, Gigantes decided not to participate.

However, after the merger between Superliga and LPB was announced, the team from the south of the country announced its return to professional basketball in the country and has done so in style with additions that make it a serious contender for everything this year.

The first of these announcements is nothing more and nothing less than the team’s coach, which will be the Spaniard, Manolo Povea, a man with experience in local basketball with Panteras de Miranda and Supersonicos de Miranda.

After the coach’s announcement, Gigantes de Guayana has confirmed no less than 8 signings, among which are: Edwin “Zancudito” Mijares, Albert Arias, Luis Valera (who returns from Spain), Fernando Lucena, Ronald Eredia, Joseph Ordaza and Carlos perez. But the one that perhaps sounds like the strongest addition of the season is that of Harol Cazorla.

All this coupled with the confirmations of two of their strong men, such as captain Axiers Sucre and the team’s leading scorer Luis “Tapipa” Duarte. Two players who made life in: Héroes de Falcón and Guaiqueríes de Margarita, respectively, in the Superliga Cup. All this makes us think of a squad that has not yet announced its imports, but without them it looks like a very powerful squad.
