Selenia Pla wins two golds and a bronze in the Spanish Parabadminton Championship and the Inclusive Games

The Xàtiva Badminton Club athlete Selenia Pla won two gold medals at the Spanish Parabadminton Championship, and a bronze medal at the Inclusive Games, held last weekend in Madrid. The woman from Setab was proclaimed champion of the women’s singles category SU5/SL4, after beating Cristina Sánchez from Granada 21-16 and 21-18 in the final. The second gold came in the mixed doubles, in which Selenia teamed up with Pablo Serrana, from CB Astures, winning the final against Iván Segura and Cristina Sánchez by 21-15 and 21-16.

Parallel to the absolute and para badminton national championships, the 2022 Inclusive Games were also convened, forming mixed pairs between absolute and para badminton athletes. Selenia Pla played with Enrique Fernández, from CB Universidad de Valladolid and they reached the semifinals, where they lost to the couple formed by Manuela Díez and Iván Segura 22-21, 22-24 and 21-19, keeping the bronze.

Besides, the lower category athletes of Badminton Xàtiva won 14 medals in the Top TTR tournament held last Saturday in Enguera. In the event, which brought together 102 athletes from the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid and the Balearic Islands, 14 players from the Setabense club, who won 4 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronzes. In the sub-13 category, Feliu Terol and Martina Molina won gold in the mixed doubles, after beating Arnau Ballester and Angela Domene (from CB Villena), who took silver. Martina also won gold in the individual, beating M.ª Magdalena Ortolá in the final, while Feliu won silver after losing to Bruno Giménez in the final. Sarai Ramón competed in the sub-15s, but was unable to reach the final phase of the tournament.

In the under-17s, the brothers Marcos and Jesús Cimas climbed to the top of the podium and won gold in the men’s doubles, defeating Mateo Fernández and Daniel Conca in the final. In singles, Marcos and Jesús each got the bronze after losing in the semifinals. Andrea Orquín got two silvers, in the women’s individual, in which she lost to Ángela Viray; and in the women’s doubles, in which she teamed up with Sara Sáez (CB Drop València), losing in the final to Soraya Gandia and Núria Martínez.

In the sub-19 category, Maria Sanz and Lucia Chorques (Drop València) from Setabense won the gold medal in the women’s doubles; while Carla Pérez and Sarai Ramón won the bronze. The couples formed by Jaume Tur and Hugo Medina, and David Polop and Vicent Molina, in the men’s doubles, were also third. For their part, Vicent and Maria won the silver in the mixed doubles, after losing in the final to Ferran Llopis and Edurne Olmos.

Next weekend the Badminton Xàtiva will play the Top TTR of sub-13, sub-17 and Absolute that will be held this Saturday in the Murcian town of San Pedro del Pinatar. Six athletes from the Setabense club will attend. Also on Saturday, the Provincial Championship of the School Games of the Valencian Community in the youngest and youngest categories will take place in Valencia, in which 12 athletes from CB Xàtiva and the Municipal Sports School will take part. For its part, Xàtiva will host on Sunday the third concentration of under-15 and under-17 players in the Valencian Community, which will be attended by seven athletes from Setabense.
