SEA Games 31: Vietnamese judokas shone on the tatami mats | Culture-Sports

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese judokas had a stellar Friday May 20 with two gold medals and one silver won on day three of SEA Games 31.

Chu Duc Dat swept the men’s 60kg after convincingly defeating Lao opponent Sithisane Soukphaxay in the final held at Hoai Duc Gymnasium, Hanoi.

He told reporters after the competition, his first international, that he was happy to offer Vietnam his first gold medal to the coaching council, his team and his family.

The other gold medal went to Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy who beat Filipina Pabulayan Khrizzie in the women’s 52 kg final. Thuy cried with joy when she was declared the winner.

Truong Hoang Phuc fell short to Nakano Shugen of the Philippines in the men’s 66kg, earning a silver medal.

Head coach Nguyen Duy Khanh said his team pinned higher hopes on the May 21 bouts, where the men’s 55kg and women’s 45kg and 48kg events will take place. – VNA
