Sampaoli: “We saw 90 minutes of ball, football” – Interview

Beyond the victory, the many injuries spoil the evening a little?

Jorge Sampaoli: “I share your concern. The players have chained a lot of matches, there is fatigue that has accumulated. We are coming out of a match against Feyenoord which was particularly intense. The most serious injury is that of Bakambu. For the others we don’t know yet, we’ll see next week when we return to Marseille. We’re at the end of the season, there’s a lot of fatigue and it shows in the players. The squad at the moment is a bit short , but we are still very happy with this victory which was not easy to get.”

What about Milik and Harit?

JS: “I hope to recover both for the game in Rennes.”

Your team has once again reacted well after a difficult moment, does that make you proud?

JS: “Yes, I really liked the way we won. We saw 90 minutes of ball, of football. We had the ball almost all the time. Lorient did not shoot once and did not We had no chances. We dominated the game a lot. The best response after the disappointment against Feyenoord was through play, and that’s what we managed to do. We showed personality to get this result, on a difficult pitch, on a difficult schedule, against an opponent who should not lose.”

Mandanda was a starter, does that mean he will play until the end of the season?

JS: “Steve is very important to us, both on the pitch and in the group. In the absence of Payet, I chose to put Mandanda on to give him command responsibility on the pitch. I’m very happy with the Pau Lopez’s season, so we will analyze several factors to know who will start in the last two games.”

Saliba will be suspended for OM-Strasbourg, but with Luan Peres who is well at the moment, is it less worrying?

JS: “Luan Peres has been playing very well for some time. I find him better in the center on the flanks. Whenever he had to play central, he was very good and responded. Beyond his speed, he brings technical mastery. He has been consistent throughout the season. We are sad to lose Saliba who has played in this position all season, but we will see where we will be in terms of the squad against Strasbourg.”
