Roland Garros Covid on stage! Krejčíková and Siniak are leaving Roland Garros

Krejčíková, who did not play for three months before the Paris Grand Slam due to an elbow injury, will not defend any of last year’s laurels. In singles, she lost to sets Diane Parry 1: 2 on Monday. After the match, she said she was looking forward to the doubles, but in the end they will not play.

“I was looking forward to the doubles, unfortunately my work in Paris is over. I woke up in the morning with a temperature. I decided to test and I’m positive for the covid. I’m extremely disappointed that I can’t defend the doubles title. On the other hand I have no more injuries. and I’m looking forward to returning to training as I recover, “Krejčíková said on social networks.

Krejčíková is the second Czech tennis player to have a positive covid-19 test in Paris during the tournament. Marie Bouzková announced this on Tuesday and resigned from singles and doubles.

Last year, Krejčíková and Siniaková won the doubles at Roland Garros, won gold at the Olympics in Tokyo and won the doubles at the Champions’ Tournament at the end of the year. In January this year, last year’s success was followed by another grand slam title at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Siniak was world number one in doubles since November 15 last year, but will not hold first place after the French Open. She will be replaced by Belgian Elise Mertens.
