Ródenas is worth a win – La Nueva España

Of course! The matches are decided by details and, of this one, it can be said that he resided in the robustness of the sternocleidomastoid (excuse me) of a petrelense. The main muscle in Alberto Ródenas’s neck turned like never before and, some thirteen meters from the goal line, he projected the ball into the net to give Real Avilés a very important victory against Leganés B.

Both contenders prolonged their respective results inertia from the previous day; dynamic, that of the premises; static, that of the visitors. In addition, each one represented what was claimed on this May 1: while Real Avilés acted as laborers (the regional Labor Day demonstration began at the same time and a few meters from the Suárez Puerta), Leganés B finished celebrating on Mother’s Day playing the breast-feeder of the realavilesinos.

The first part passed with hardly any noteworthy incidents. For the hosts, no more than a couple of swift combinations between Mabwati and Sergio García and two attempts by Jorge Morcillo and Iago Díaz that alerted goalkeeper Sergio Valero. The real danger of the cucumber subsidiary, who before half an hour lost bedawa Aymane Mourid due to injury, withdrawn in tears, was not glimpsed until after the break, just ten seconds after the restart, after a casting by Álex Sancris that Diego García was about to finish off with success. The Blue and Whites, warned, were spurred on by the announcement, but, seeing that the chances still did not come, Emilio Cañedo did not want to delay the revolution of the triple change and place up to four men for specific attack.

Almost without solution of continuity, the decisive play took place. Javi Pérez played horizontally towards Nacho López; the side, sighting the requesting gestures of Ródenas, centered warmly and the battering ram, with a wonderful foreshortening, headed in a balloon to the square. That neck twist will be remembered. After the goal, Leganés B had three good options for the equalizer, through Luis Forcén, whose shot grazed Davo Armengol’s right post in the 72nd minute, and Álex Sancris and Ofoli-Quaye, when Ibiza-born Martínez Campillos (the first Balearic referee in history to direct a Real Avilés host match) controlled the added minutes.

We could call the qualifying situation of Real Avilés little less than amazing, because, with 180 minutes to go, it is still mathematically likely to go up or down a step in this new and disconcerting league system. It is a group without no man’s land.
