The Malaysian men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, at the Indonesia Open 2021 at the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, Tuesday (23/11/2021).

BOLASPORT.COM – Malaysia’s national men’s doubles coaching director, Rexy Mainaky, said that he didn’t just want the neighboring country’s number one men’s doubles, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, to end the title drought.

Rexy Mainaky also wants Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik to have a long career in international tournaments like the representatives of Indonesia, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan.

Rexy Mainaky believes in Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik who are bronze medalists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is pleased with the progress they are showing in training.

At the Thailand Open 2022 in Bangkok, two weeks ago, Chia/Soh eliminated the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions and the second seed, Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin (Taiwan) before the semifinal against Fajar Alfian/Rian Ardianto.

“The win against Taiwan was one of their best performances. I saw a lot of positive things in their game, Wooi Yik especially tried harder,” said Rexy as reported by BolaSport.com from The Star.

“He (Soh Wooi Yik) is at his best after contracting Covid-19 in March, but he’s back on track. He’s opened up his game and blended in better with Aaron.”

Previously, Chia/Soh reached the final of the 2022 Asian Championships in Manila. At the 2022 Thomas Cup in Bangkok prior to the 2022 Thailand Open, the duo played once against England.

However, against Japan and India, Rexy fielded Chia and Teo Ee Yi as the second double for tactical reasons.

“Ahsan and Hendra (ranked 3rd in the world) have played for more than a decade and they are doing well. The more they play together, they achieve better results,” said Rexy.
