PGA Championship Golf 2022: Jon Rahm finishes with his best lap in Tulsa

A a hole to conclude his participation in the PGA Championship, Jon Rahm appealed to luck after hitting the ball in the tee del 17 with a wood. Luck or not, the shot was perfect and the ‘Len de Barrika’ even had an eagle option, although the result was ultimately a birdie. It is true that Jon was unlucky to catapult some of his laps this week in Tulsa, but also some miscalculation is what has prevented him from being on top.

‘Rahmbo’ ended with a return of 68 (-2), the best of his fourand with a total of 286 hits. If he already had it complicated after the end of Friday, Saturday’s 76 left him totally out, even from fighting for an important ‘top 10’ for the world ranking.

Curiously Rahm’s drive has recorded some outstanding statistics, although the third day suffered from the beginning. The Basque has been the envy of the majority in this sense, and even has put his ball back on the green more easily than almost all his rivals. That is why the Basque golfer asked not only for his ball to enter the green at 17 in a single shot, but also to stay in a good position, something that has been lacking this week.

The Biscano has not played badly, but a course like Southern Hills does not forgive one, even less around the green. In fact, the difference has been marked in the Oklahoma course by the precision with the irons, complicated by the action of the wind, and the expertise in the short game. Leaving it on the green and also in a good position, and not falling into a bunker, is where Rahm -already the majority- you missed something right. Also in reading some greens.

‘Rahmbo’ analyzed his week after finishing the last round. The Basque is clear that, although he played well, and “I didn’t even hit bad swings, there were mistakes that will cost you a lot in a ‘major’, especially on the first day.”

Regarding Saturday’s +6, he said, “I just couldn’t get that birdie or that couple of shots to get me going and come out +2 or +3 for the day.” Jon also acknowledged: “It’s very easy to talk about it now, but there were mistakes that could and should be avoided.”.

In any case, the one from Barrika called for calm: “Today I played well, it was a consolation prize. My game is good and my swing too”.
